  • INTRODUCTION OF BILLS AND JOINT RESOLUTIONS
    • The following bills and joint resolutions were introduced, read the first and second time by unanimous consent, and referred as indicated:
      • By Mr. BENTSEN <for himself, Mr. CHAFEE, Mr. MoYNIHAN, Mr. DANFORTH, Mr. BOREN, Mr. GRASSLEY, Mr. WALLOP, Mr. DURENBERGER, Mr. BRADLEY, Mr. MITCHELL, and Mr. BAUCUS):
      • S. 1992. A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 to simplify and improve the income tax treatment of life insurance companies and their products; to the Committee on Finance.
  • The House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures has held two major hearings.
  • This process culminated in a bill (H.R. 4065) which was reported out of the House Ways and Means Committee.
    • The bill is generally supported by Treasury, mutual companies, stock companies and associations representing life insurance agents.
    • All are not happy with all aspects of the bill.
